First, a story of aggravation: I have five books of Sherlock Holmes stories and this short story isn't in a single one! Annoyed, I decided that I could allow myself to buy a new book (I've restricted myself currently) from work that had the story in it. My aggravation only grew to find that not a single book at my work (in a bookstore!) had this short story in it either! Now, three days later and after searching numerous bargain collections at work full of misprints and bad book covers, IThe only time so far that Holmes refused to help the police.

Considering that most of Arthur Conan Doyles stories contain detective work, this one has no detecting per se It is still an amazing story, and definitely a must-read for fans of Sherlock.
I enjoyed this story immensely.While the case wasn't too high-profile (from where I'm sitting), I loved the way Holmes and Watson interacted in this story.Their friendship is absolutely adorable... it isn't often that you read stories that have close friendships between men combined with other elements, such as mysteries- like this one.
Do you feel a creeping, shrinking sensation, Watson, when you stand before the serpents in the Zoo and see the slithery, gliding, venomous creatures, with their deadly eyes and wicked, flattened faces? Well, that how Milverton impresses me. Charles Augustus Milverton is the full name to be exact. According to the one-and-only Sherlock Holmes, he is the worst man in London! Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson attempt to retrieve some letters being used by a blackmailer who is a known criminal, but has been hard to capture in the act of his devilish and underhanded schemes. A sudden twist puts a fitting close to Charles Augustus Milverton's criminal behavior.
Not that good of a criminal as he thinks himself to be.
